At Liberty Lake Day Camp, giving back to the community is an essential part of who we are. We are more than partners with our camp families—we’re also partners with our surrounding local communities. We undertake a variety of social initiatives each month of the year, including our two-week “Foundation Celebration” during the camp season. Through our Liberty Lake’s Teen Leadership Program, we teach that “to Lead Is to Serve.” We give our campers ample leadership opportunities throughout the summer and all year round.
Inspired by our longstanding support and partnerships with SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education) and Project Morry (a program for at-risk youth,) Liberty Lake wanted to find a way to be more intentional about its charitable contributions locally. This goal encompasses galvanizing our Liberty Lake community to volunteer our time and resources to support campers and families in need of financial assistance, while establishing partnerships with other youth-serving organizations in Central/South Jersey. And so, in 2010 we established the Liberty Lake Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.
Many fund-raisers we’ve hosted at Liberty Lake include our annual swim-a-thons, plus “Lasagna Love,” Polar Bear Plunges, Community Day events, parenting workshops, charity picnics, team-building events and field days for local nonprofits and schools
When camp is “out,” we call upon volunteer assistance from our Liberty Lake families, including campers, to help us run a variety of charitable drives/collections. We firmly believe that “to lead is to serve,” and volunteering time and effort can add character-building continuity to your child’s life. And, we have a whole lot of fun supporting our neighbor! We’re convinced that those who learn the importance of giving back while they’re young become humanitarians for life. Some of our community initiatives include: Seasonal clothing drives, blanket drops at homeless shelters, towel collection for animal shelters, and a holiday wish list for local foster children, in conjunction with Oaks Integrated Care
Thanks to our LLDC families, we’ve raised over a quarter million dollars our scholarship program—better known as “Camperships”—for children whose families would otherwise not be able to afford the camp experience. We work in conjunction with a handful of other camps who accept our Campership dollars: Fernbrook Farm in Chesterfield, YMCA of the Pines in Medford, Creek Run in Marlton, and Camp Southwoods (resident camp in NY state.) Check out the Liberty Lake Foundation website for the scholarship application which is usually open from November through January.
The true inspiration for creating the Liberty Lake Foundation was something close to our hearts and youth-development aspirations: supporting the friends and neighbors of our Liberty Lake families and their children so that they can learn, grow and succeed. Thus, we seek to partner with local youth serving organizations-
