- Some campers qualify for PerformCare financial support toward summer camp tuition and one-to-one advocate services for summer camp. At this time, this is the greatest funding opportunity for families of children with needs. More info below.
- Some school districts may provide an advocate if it is a part of the child’s IEP, ESY summer plan. You should discuss this with your child’s case manager, as it is a wonderful option for providing social skill interaction.
- For higher functioning children with special needs, we can help identify staff that we believe will make great Inclusion Counselors. Parents would pay the additional cost of this Inclusion Counselor through the camp.
- Some parents hire their own advocates. Often times they find people who already work with their child during the year and are very familiar with their needs. We are amenable to work with them, as long as they attend Liberty Lake training orientation and comply with our rules and policies.
- Liberty Lake partners with school districts, state and county support programs, military and religious organizations that make funding available for all children to enjoy the camp experience. Be an advocate for your child, seek out all avenues possible, and let us know how we can help you!
PerformCare and NJCSOS
Liberty Lake is approved through the NJ Department of Health and Human Services Real Life Choices (RLC) Program which provides some funding for qualified children to attend Camp. To see if your child qualifies for these services, contact Perform Care at 877-652-7624.
Your child may be eligible for tuition assistance and 1 to 1 support for camp through the NJ Children’s System of Care- PerformCare. This state funded program is based solely on your child’s needs and not on your income. Many of our campers with special needs enjoy 2 weeks at Liberty Lake and the services of a 1:1 advocate through this program. Families receive a refund check in the fall for a significant portion of the tuition and the entire cost of the 1 to 1 for those 2 weeks of camp. Apply as soon as possible as this application takes time for the state to process.
If/when your child has been accepted to Liberty Lake Day Camp (through the intake process, if necessary) you may then apply for PerformCare financial support toward summer camp tuition and one-to-one advocate services for summer camp.

Parents are encouraged to contact PerformCare ASAP, as the application takes time to process and must be completed before the March 30 deadline.
Part of the PerformCare Application is the CABS (Child Adaptive Behavior Summary) which asks for information on your child’s functioning at home/school within the last 6 months. This information is what PerformCare uses to determine your child’s eligibility for advocate support at camp. Providing us with a copy of this CABS will help Liberty Lake’s Inclusion Team better understand your child, and will allow us more time at the intake interview to talk about more camp specific needs.
Liberty Lake Day Camp is certified by the State of New Jersey, Department of Developmental Disabilities as a provider of 1:1 Advocate services for our campers with special needs- so you can secure high level inclusion staff support through us.
