While we’re proud of Liberty Lake Day Camp’s 60 acres of shady coverage, and our diverse selection of activities, our most important asset is a human one: our team. It’s easy to get caught up in outdoing ourselves each season with new programming and facilities- like High Ropes Courses, Pickleball Courts, etc. But the greatest summertime adventure happens when our dynamic staff interacts with your child and fosters genuine relationships.
Our frontline summer staff creates personal bonds of unbelievable influence. Kids are impressionable. They can be swayed to take certain paths on the road to adulthood, and we take this responsibility very seriously. Sure, we “have fun,” but your kids’ real “fun” is the happy consequence of pushing themselves beyond their perceived limits, and gaining confidence with the loving support of our awesome staff.
We put enormous time and energy into building a team of Group Leaders, Specialists, Division Leaders, Lifeguards, and Counselors who will do right by your child. We expect our team members to be superstars who generate results (social, emotional, artistic, and athletic) and return year after year. Liberty Lake is one of the highest-paying camps in the southern/central New Jersey region. And at least half of our team members are former campers!
We don’t hire young teens to supervise campers. Our teen-leadership training program focuses on mentoring young people whom we challenge to ‘get a job’ by applying for it. That’s right: We don’t promise anyone a job – we make them earn it. Don’t we sound like someone’s parents?!? Because we cultivate our own bounty of future team members, we absorb them whole into the Liberty Lake philosophy. They ‘pay it forward’ by becoming the next generation of Counselors and Group Leaders.
Our quest to secure the best and brightest summer camp professionals is a sacred one during the off-season. Just having a pulse and a winsome smile isn’t enough to qualify as a Liberty Lake team member. Our screening process involves a challenging interview process, contacting references, and thorough background checks. This intensive process results in hiring team members who do much more than shepherd their campers from activity to activity. Our staff are youth-development professionals that foster an atmosphere of trust and respect, promote learning, and trying new experiences to expand the comfort zone!
This exceptional organization starts with a exceptional leader that curates a culture of high expectations, quality, and performance. Andy Pritikin has is not only the leader of Liberty Lake, he’s one of the preeminent leaders of the summer camp industry. Besides founding three other camps besides Liberty Lake, Andy oversaw professional development for the American Camp Association in the northeast for over a decade, including serving as both program chair and conference chair of the largest camp professionals in the world. He served as President of the American Camp Association’s largest section, presents workshops and keynotes throughout North America and oversees, and is the host of the “Day Camp Podcast” which discusses best practices and interviews youth development experts, and operators from the best camps in the world. When the world came to a screeching half in 2020, Andy led the charge as a spokesman for the camp industry to open summer camps nationally, while helping enable New Jersey camps to open up before we were even allowed back into restaurants. Andy has assembled a year round and seasonal leadership team who are similarly committed to the mission of building character and community, as well as the high standards and expectations from our frontline seasonal staff.
“The kids really enjoy camp, the culture and behavior modeling is helping kids prepare for the real world, there are a lot options for kids to try something new or not.“
