Experience of a First Year

So many Liberty Lakers have never been to LLDC before. It is their first year. Usually, campers are excited to try something new, but are scared they won’t be able to keep up with everything or get the electives they want. I am also a first year and I was scared, too. I didn’t know where to go, but luckily a friend from school who was in my group guided me to all my electives, whether it be mountain biking, Poke-Magic, Gaga, group choice, lunch, hour of free swim, then to Senior Soiree, then finally archery. Imagine the people who didn’t have a friend for guidance.

Assemblies appear sometimes, too. Awareness or Friday assemblies, they both entertain kids. Monday assemblies consist of you getting your elective sheet, raising the flag, and the Everybody Wake Up song. You also get to group leader, fellow campers, learn where your meeting spot is, and see the rest of the campers that go to Liberty Lake. Awareness assemblies will get the camp to learn about something in a fun way. In the compost assembly, we did the “Shake, Shake Your Wormy” dance.

Some spirit events happen like color war or gold rush. In color war, you get split up into teams, get points, and fight for your team to win. This year, (2017) it is Girls vs. Boys. In Gold Rush, your group collects doubloons for a Gold Rush auction to buy prizes. Coins are equal to 10 points each. After that, for Group Choice, you go to the ampitheather for an auction. You can buy tons of things with your points like soda at lunch for one day and popcorn at the LLDC play. Color War and Gold Rush entertain you for quite a while. I loved auctioning for prizes and showing spirit for my team. Every kid usually loves these great activities. You will have tons of fun with these 2, especially color war.

Overall, if this is your first year at LLDC, stay calm, and it’s okay to ask for help. Be excited to show spirit and have fun at Liberty Lake Day Camp. There are electives galore, great assemblies, cool spirit events, and even more. Liberty Lake will help you love the summer.
