Success Inclusion Program

Inclusion – Social/Emotional – Medical – Cultural

Liberty Lake Day Camp gives all children an opportunity to succeed. Under our “Success Program” umbrella, we welcome campers with additional needs who can succeed with extra support in a total inclusion experience.

When families indicate on their application that their child has an IEP or 504 plan at school, our Success Team will reach out to discuss details of your child’s unique challenges that relate to their possible enrollment and attendance at Liberty Lake. Our Inclusion Director spearheads the off-season Success Team, and can be reached at inclusion@libertylakedaycamp.com with any questions or concerns.

While Liberty Lake runs a camp program geared towards neurotypical children, our renown Inclusion Program allows many high functioning campers on the autistic spectrum, and/or with physical challenges to participate as well. If deemed necessary, we support these children with additional staff as part of their “Success Plan,” and modify their activities when possible for true inclusion to take place.

Our Social/Emotional Support Program assists children and staff by nurturing the social, emotional, and behavioral development of all children. Campers may come to us having to adjust to new situations at home, such as moving, loss or issues with peers. They may be experiencing behavioral health issues such as: ADHD, Anxiety, Depression or Eating Disorders. Our staff is ready and able to support most campers with these needs.

Our experienced and caring Nursing Staff provides support for children with a myriad of medical conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, severe food allergies, etc.  They are able to monitor and/or dispense medication as needed. They attend to the typical cuts and bruises that naturally occur at camp too!

Our Dietary Specialist works hand in hand with our catering team and group counselors to ensure that dietary needs are meet for both lunch meals and snacks. While we are a nut-aware facility (we do not serve food with nuts, nor made in a facility as such,) please let us know if your child is dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, kosher, vegetarian or similar so that we can accommodate!

We also embrace children from countries and cultures into our camp family. We strive to provide language support, as well as support for cultural differences such as food and dress. Our goal is for ALL campers to be successful in our extraordinarily diverse camp world, just as they will in life.

INTAKE PROCESS FOR PROSPECTIVE CAMPERS

You will be contacted by the Success Team, asking you-

  • To provide a copy of your child’s IEP/504
  • To have your child’s teacher fill out a Questionnaire we will provide.
  • To sign a release we will provide allowing us to contact the school staff or outside agencies that provide services for more information to help us support your child.
  • To schedule an intake meeting with our Inclusion Team at camp so we can get to know you and your child.
  • To have a discussion about the level of support (which may include the addition of a staff person) determined to help ensure we can meet your child’s needs.
  • To discuss the potential additional cost of the determined extra support staff for your child, and options for funding through PerformCare, Public School Funding, and parent pay.

Once the above steps have been completed, based on all the information we have gathered, we will determine if we can safely and effectively support your child with additional needs in our program. If we feel that they can be successful, we will develop an agreed upon, detailed “Summer Success Plan” of necessary aspects which will be shared with the administrators and staff who will be working with your child during the summer.
